Description

There is nothing better than getting cozy in front of your heater on cold, wintery nights.

You may have heard of Infrared heaters and their ability to warm you right through to the core due to their fast acting heat rays that dispel the cold. Are infrared heaters worth it? Can you even get a portable infrared indoor heater that ticks off all the boxes?

In this article we will take a look at the differences between infrared and regular heaters, plus give you some insights into our recommended premium infrared heaters.

Let’s firstly look at some different styles of heaters including oil heaters, gas heaters and then explore what actually is an ‘infrared’ heater.

How Does An Oil Heater Work?

A traditional oil heater works by an element at the base which heats up oil and then flows around the cavities of the heater through convection.

Through this conduction, it then heats up the surrounding air via convection and thermal radiation where the heat is released off the panels. The air surrounding the heater absorbs the heat and rises while drawing in cool air.

The process continues until the entire room reaches the uniform temperature you're most comfortable with. The larger the panel, or the greater number of fins in the heater, the more air is in contact with the heater and the faster the room warms up.

Oil heaters are commonly used in bedrooms and smaller spaces ,where gas heaters are not suitable for small spaces due to the emissions produced.

They will leave a room heated for longer after they are switched off, whereas an infrared heater will stop producing heat as soon as it is switched off.

If you are wanting to use an oil heater outdoors on your patio, it can be done, but note that the lifespan of the heater will be reduced.

How Does A Gas Heater Work?

Gas heaters work through burning gas fuel using the ‘radiant’ method. There are various parts to this heating system including venting, draft inducers, heat exchange and burners.

Basically, the combination of gas and air create flame which heats the air surrounding the gas heater.

Gas heaters firstly work through a thermostat which senses the temperature of the room and will activate if it drops to a certain temperature. So it is vital that your gas heater has a properly functioning thermos.

The gas then enters the furnace through the intake, where it produces a flame. The air that comes into the heater moves over the hot tubes and results in hot air.

Heat exchange then needs to occur for gas heaters to work, where hot air passes through a vent. Portable gas heaters are cheaper, but are also known to have less ventilation.

It is worth noting that gas heaters also produce water vapour which can lead to condensation and potentially mould.

How Does An Infrared Heater Work?

The term ‘infrared’ refers to a type of electromagnetic radiation, a continuum of frequencies produced when atoms absorb and then release energy.

You may hear the term ‘far’ infrared when looking up heaters as well. The distinction here is that ‘near infrared’ light is closest in wavelength to visible light and does not produce heat. ‘Far’ infrared is closer to the microwave in terms of the electromagnetic spectrum and these waves are thermal.

Using the same heat from the sun without the harmful UV rays, infrared heaters work on the premise of converting electricity into radiant heat, duplicating the most basic form of heating.

Some refer to infrared heaters as a ‘portable radiant heater’ because they use radiation to heat up a room.

Hot coils are wrapped over the heat source so heat is transferred evenly. The heat is reflected by a polished metal so it extends out for several yards, creating a gentle, comfortable source of warmth.

The feeling of infrared heating can be compared to warmth from the sun, making it appealing to many as a form of heating as it is not as harsh as perhaps the gas heater

Not only that, but an infrared heater is super quiet, making it suitable for noise-sensitive rooms while still enjoying warmth.

Most can be transported from one spot to the other which is great for people who want more of a portable infrared heater rather than a fixed gas heater.

Benefits Of An Infrared Heater

Easy Maintenance : there are no fans to replace, air filters or lubrication required. You just need to clean out the reflectors every so often.

Healthy : Infrared heaters won't add any pollutants in your room. They operate without any carbon combustion, no toxic-by-products, no open flames and no fuel lines. They are neutral in that they do not add or take anything from the air. This can be helpful for preventing drying your sinuses (which can be a problem using other heating methods.)

Instant Heating: You do not need to wait to start feeling warm and cozy as these heaters work as soon as they are switched on, perfect for doing work as your desk, or sitting in front of the TV enjoying your show.

Consider Fuel Prices For Running Costs

It is interesting to note that the price of electricity and gas slightly affects the running costs of heaters.

A halogen (type of infrared) heater is cheaper to run in the areas where the gas prices are considerably lower than the electricity rates. In the areas where electricity rates are cheaper as compared to gas charges, an oil-filled radiator will be cheaper to use. In a study by the Center for Sustainable Energy, UK, it costs around $0.22 every hour to run a 1.5-kilowatt halogen heater against $0.27 every hour for an oil-filled heater.

The Benefits Of Marble Infrared Technology - The BioSari Infrared Heater

Marble is a natural stone with high energy density and excellent conductivity and is the best stone for absorbing large amounts of heat quickly.

‘Storage’ heaters have been around for a long time and were made from lightweight concrete and fire brick. Natural marble is far better than these two man-made materials at heating quickly and then storing the heat.

Breakthrough Technology

This is a breakthrough in portable heating technology. This heating features a slice of Mongolian marble cut into slices and polished to create the heating element with distinctive characteristics that have been demonstrated and praised by scientific studies.

The wavelength of far infrared rays emitted by this marble element is the ideal one to make the human body feel comfortable.

The heater generates a super far infrared heat that continues to emit up to half an hour after turned off, a breakthrough in infrared heating.

The natural marble heating element has unique features: Its molecules are able to release an incredible amount of far infrared energy at a temperature of 300 degrees.

This makes it the most efficient heating device on the market today in terms of radiant heat emitted (30% more far infrared rays than any other type of heating element).

Safety Features

Another interesting note is that the far-infrared rays of the BioSari Marble infrared Heater are 10-12 µm which is the best for the human body.

By comparison, the short-infrared of oil-based storage heaters sit between 2.5 µm and are the worst range for the human body.

For a safe stance, the BioSari Marble heater has an extra-wide base stand with tip-over protection.

A practical carrying handle gives you mobility and facilitates the transfer to any desired location.
